5:30 PM Sat.1 live, March 27, 2026: Frankfurt-Rhine-Main is the world's largest internet hub. Streaming, online retail, and AI are constantly driving up the demand for computing power. Sat.1 visited me at our data center – over 1,000 server racks, all operating at full capacity. And they documented what's holding the location back: not technology, but electricity.
WHAT I SHOW
Why the expansion of data centers is currently failing not due to technology, but due to energy. Why we cannot build new capacity despite having available space, and are even prohibited from expanding existing infrastructure. And what this means for our customers – and for digital progress as a whole.
MY STANDPOINT
Germany faces a structural problem: The demand for digital infrastructure is growing faster than its implementation. New connection capacities for data centers are not expected to be fully available again until the mid-2030s. For me, one thing is clear:
The digital trend has been underestimated for too long – now clear decisions and faster implementation are needed.
